1. you're not supposed to ovulate then, but it's possible, or you could ovulate right before or right after your period

2. egg can last for 3 days

3. sperm can last for 7 days inside you

Add all these things together and if conditions are right they make a baby!

The chances are very slim but it can still happen.

it takes about a week for sperm to fertilize an egg

Sperm can live inside of your body for up to 48 hours+ and sometimes your body will release an egg to travel before you have even finished bleeding from your period. The 28 day cycle thing is ongoing- it isn't always exact either- You may think you are to ovulate on day 14th day of your cycle- but your body may just decide to do it on day 8 or 11??
So, if you think you are are safe just because you are still bleeding- you aren't!! Yes- you can get pregnant in the middle of your pd- especially if you had sex just before-during or right after- it happens!!
usually, if you are on a fairly regular schedule- you should be able to feel your body ovulating in the middle of your cycle- you will get a little cramp on one side or the other (your ovaries) and also a bit of a white discharge.. but unless you know your body well- do not rely on this info to use for getting or for NOT getting Pregnant!!- Rely on your OBGYNs!!

the sperm travel up the filopian tube to meet the egg, this can take up to 7 days or so to happen, so you most likely arent going to concieve the actual day that you have sex. Once the egg is fertilized instead of being expelled with your next period, it attaches itself to the uteran lining.
