I just married my husband and hes been on reserve since i met him but will be going active duty soon i just curious if that lifestyle will be hard or will the benefits outway the cons....?

i used to be one...i loved it..but couldnt stand the area...i just hate when they have staff duty...we was stationed at ft.hood in texas....

Im a Marine girlfriend and I can tell you sometimes I wish we were married. That way, we could be together always. Its hard sitting hear months on end and then having to pay 600 bucks to fly and see him. You will enjoy it alot better. you wont hurt as much, until he goes away. You'll get more money and benefits. And the plus side is being surrounded by other army wife's.

It's definitely not easy and it's not always fun but it is doable.

But if you're willing to work at your marriage and keep it strong throughout separations and communication blackouts you'll be alright. You will come second to what the military wants/needs from your husband-don't hold that against him! Depending on his schools and TDY you will not always be able to live with him, though, just so you know. Deployments suck, needless to say.

You'll get BAH or housing, health insurance, he'll get life insurance, he gets 30 days paid leave a year, you'll get to see the world, you'll meet lots of new people, if he stays in for 20 years there's the pension, education oppurtunities, reduced fee child care, etc. etc.

Really, you'll hear a lot going either way (good or bad) but it's what you make of it.
