scoring a goal in ice hockey? How many goals do hockey players score per shots on goal? Not only that but Sidney Crosby of the Penguins was able to knock a puck out of the air traveling at 100 mph with his stick while on skates. How is this not harder than hitting a baseball?

crosby is an extraordinary player you can take what he is able to do into consideration because most players couldn't do that ok hitting a hockey puck is much easier because your hitting a stationary or fairly slow moving object from a normally close distance in to a net thats much much wider then the puck where as in baseball your hitting a small ball moving 90ish mph on the small barrel of the bat and you have to change the velocity of a ball that was coming at you at 90mph to make it go the opposition direction witch takes a ridiculous amount of strength and the hardest part of hitting is the abillity to watch the ball the ability to tell if a ball moving 90 miles an hour is inside of a 2 foot by 1 foot strike zone the abillity to identify if the ball is a fastball or an off-speed pitch and time your swing accordingly all in the matter of a second

Apples and oranges. Hitting a baseball (putting it in play) is a basic skill. The comparable action in hockey would be a shot on goal, not scoring the goal. The better comparison to a goal is the RBI hit. Statistically, the best hitters have 1-2 RBIs per game which is comparable to 1-2 goals scored per game (season average). Shots on goal and putting a baseball in play start the action and would be generally successful without defense. It's only when you add the defense that it becomes challenging.

Think about it. A ball going 90 MPH is rushing towards you, you have less than a half a second to either swing or take the pitch. And that's just 90, try swinging at a pitch almost 100 MPH, that's even less time to react. And most of the time even if you do hit the ball it will result in an out.

I played hockey in winters and baseball in spring and summer. Hitting a baseball square up as they were discussing on ESPN tonight is very hard. the ball is round and the bat is round. It is easier to hit a flat puck with a flat stick. Yes, there are 6 guys intent on keeping you from hitting the puck, from having the puck go where you want it to and from your head staying on your shoulders, but the single act of hitting the puck is obviously easier than hitting a baseball. IMHO.
