And where does all the money go? The principal at my school was just at a seminar at Harvard. Now I don't know if these figures are averages for the Boston area, in Massachusetts, or in the entire country, but he learned that per student schools in the US receive around $23,000 per student to spend on supplies, school improvements, teacher salaries etc. In Ontario our schools receive only $9,000 per student. I'm curious as to where this money comes from. In Canada we're taxed a lot more heavily than in the US yet our schools receive only 40% the funding of US schools. Also, teachers in Ontario earn anywhere from ~$40,000 in their first year teaching to $90,000 after 10-12 years, whereas teachers in the US earn considerably less. Aside from teacher salaries, I would assume that school supplies and the building costs etc. are general similar. I doubt a pencil in the US costs more than a pencil up here. So where does that money come from, and what does it get spent on?
