Hello everyone,

I had cricket service back in 2002 and it was not all that great then. The unlimited talk was great but the drop calls and very low signal is what made me give them up.

I currently have Alltel and I am caught up in the Verizon buy out. Since I think that Verizon will take away "my circle" that will leave me with a high over the limit bill.

My question is... has cricket improved and what is there internet like. If I go with Cricket, I would like to buy a converted phone for better futures than what cricket offers. I use the internet on my current phone now for checking e-mails and check E-bay for my auction listings. Will still able to do that with cricket?

Tell me the good and the bad...

It all depenRAB where you live. If you live in a larger city like Phoenix, then it is very good. I use Cricket service in Lincoln NE. I haven't had a dropped call in a few years. However, it doesn't work when I go outside Lincoln unless I pay for roaming minutes.

I live in Jacksonville, Arkansas. I remeraber being at work with my cricket phone and barely getting a signal.

Does cricket have full web service?

I as well havent had a dropped call in years unless was driving through a really bad area where pretty much all phones drop calls or lose service anyhow. As far as the internet goes, it works well, i havent had too many issues with it as of yet. Though keep in mind if you want to do E-Mail, if its POP3 yer screwed, basicly all ports short of 80 & 8080 are BLOCKED so you wont be able to use outlook or something like that. Now if you get their broadband service, then Email etc isnt a issue, less you want to do VOIP :)

Hope you got the info you needed from all the reply's., quite honestly, i do have minor issues with cricket like the blocking of ports, but when its all boiled down, for the price and the features etc, its deffinatly a better deal than anything else out there. At least here in Denver... Its worth giving it another try, if you still dont like it, cancel yer service and go back to VZ/Altell or some other provider. I've been with Cricket basicly since its launch here in Colorado and i basicly refuse to use any other provider as every time ive had AT&T or some other carrier, i always got billed for minutes etc i didnt use. Quite annoying...

Anyway have a good day,
David

I live in a larger market and I too haven't gotten dropped calls a lot. On my street though it seems like ti's an issue, it should be noted though that anyone with a CDMA carrier has horrible reception on my street.

I have no trouble getting my AOL email on Cricket at all. You just need one of there Java Phones or a flashed phone that will except Java apps. I have the Nokia 6265i again and had the 6275i for awhile and got and GET AOL EMAIL. The Program is FLURRY, it works great. Also go for OPERA MINI! With Opera I can send my Ebay invoices, bid on ebay and use all Paypal features.
I think there are 4 Java phone's that Cricket released over the years. Also I think many of the flashed pda's like 6700 and 6800 do Java.
For me in Denver dropped calls almost never happen.

I dont understand blocked ports because with the 2 above apps it seems like I can go anywhere I want?

I wanna thank everyone for their response about cricket service. It sound like cricket has improved their service quite a bit. I think cricket may be what I need to get.

Like Jeweler...I use yahoo and gmail, need to check ebay, paypal and etc. Any suggestions for a phone to look for? I like the BB curve but not sure if I can get one flashed for cricket.

I know I made a post on here not too long ago about this. I think cricket service is fine. However, if you want to reach their customer service department, you better pack a lunch. It can take as long as an hour to get through. Then they might have you call back to go to another department. Just a bit of FYI for ya.

Cricket has improved since 2002 because most of the plans include market-to-market roaming. If I remeraber correctly, Cricket was local-only back in the day and you were roaming even if you were in another Cricket market outside of your local area. Cricket is also constantly expanding its nuraber of markets. They have much of Tennessee covered, which is awesome. If it weren't for the plan I got now, I would definitely be with Cricket.
