How is america exceptional if it has come to where it is through horrific...

...circumstances? 400 years Slavery, 75 years of segregation, Jim Crow segregation and Bigotry, Profiteering and benefiting from the Holocaust /WWII, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Poverty, Homeless, More Crime than any other western country..etc. How is this exceptional other than exceptionally bad?
I'm not saying other places are perfect either..but our past isn't exactly a bed of roses.

Barney: you are in dyer need of a history lesson. good grief. Here's a start for you. Christopher Columbus landed here in 1492. Hopefully you can take it from there.
Gabriel: those things may be true. However..americas oldest universities look like babies compared to universities in other places like great britain for example. Univ of Oxford was founded in in like 1096 or something.
 
Travel a little around the world and you will get an idea as to why America is exceptional. The difference between America and any other country is Hope for a better future and that people have a chance to make a difference in making it a better place to live.
 
There is no such thing as the perfect place. But remember some of the greatest music (like Rock and Roll, Blues, Jazz, Swing, Broadway, etc) some of the greatest movies (Hollywood) some of the greatest technology (like computers, cell phones, the internet, google, facebook, twitter...) came from the USA. Don't take those things for granted. USA has defined the culture and technology of the 20-early 21st centuries.

Don't forget that some of the best scientists either came to the USA to make their career or were American born. (Einstein came to the USA, Richard Feynman was a great physicist from the USA, Oppenheimer, astrophysicist Chandrasekhar made his career in the USA).
Dont forget some of the best universities in the world like Stanford, Harvard, NYU, Berkley, UCLA.

The universities aren't babies when you look at the impressive staff they have. Of course Oxford also has an impressive staff.
 
We can only be expected to get past our problems , right them if we can.

In the scope of time we the human race just crawled out of a mud hole yesterday, we have a long ways to go.
