I have heard that the mechanical part is relatively easily. But the electronic part is a nightmare

...2002 chevy s10 xtreme? I'm looking to do an upgrade from a V6 to a V8. Is there anyone that programs electronic control modules to accommodate the 8 cylinder being in a vehicle that came from the factory with a 6 cylinder? Also, do they make a wiring harness adapter for all the sensors and everything else under the hood? The 4.3 has a distributor and the 5.3 does not. Will the transmission bolt up to the 5.3?
Thank you to anyone can answer this, and if possible, give any other helpful information on this subject.
I also live in NH. The state inspection they do involves an emissions test, but they don't put a probe in the tail pipe to read the emission levels. They hook the vehicle up to a diagnostic computer, and if you have any sensors that don't work properly, you FAIL.

Your best bet is to put a 350 or 305 in it with an after market fuel injection unit (Holly) this will be so much cheaper then the 4.8 or 5.3, plus their are more upgrades available and no worries over swapping over the computer for a V8 version. Yes, the transmission will bolt up, you just need to worry bout relocating the motor mounts.
