How important is the evolution vs intelligent design debate to you?

If you are an atheist, for example, how badly would it hurt your world view if some discovery were made that invalidated Darwin's theory?
If you are a Christian or otherwise an advocate of the intelligent design theory, would it destroy your faith if some discovery were made that finally proved, once and for all, that Darwin's theory is correct?

I am wondering, here...to most of us, this is more of an intellectual exercise than anything else...I hope, anyway.
How important is it to us to be "right"??

Not at all. People will bend information to fit what they are happy to believe.

Evolution is not just a notion, it's a verifiable fact.
ID is creationism in a cheap suit. It doesn't come close to being any kind of science. It's a religious discourse which proves nothing.
What I'm trying to say here, is that there is no debate to measure any importance to.

If the creation account is false, then the entire Bible, which itself claims to be inerrant, can not be trusted. If so, how are we to trust the outrageous claims of eternal salvation through Jesus Christ?

Even worse, what is the point in salvation in the first place? If death, cancer, thorns, pain, and suffering existed before man, and it was not man's rebellion against God that brought those things into existence, what can Jesus possibly save us from by saving us from our sins?
