How important are the arts to your family?

Is that something that is important to your family, or a love that you share? How do you expose your kids to those things?
do you think in general music, theater, and art are important to children in general?
At this point my kids are little but we have some kid books that show famous paintings and letter recognition. i also make a point to show the kids any paintings or pictures we see when we are out. thats probably the one love that i look forward to really sharing with my kids, when they are old enough to take to the Smithsonian and go to the national gallery.

as with everyone else, more important to me than my kids right now, just as they were more important to my parents than to me when i was a kid but it rubbed off on me eventually. the one special thing i used to do with my dad growing up, just me and him, was go on the train ride into nyc to go to museums and bookstores. and both he and my mom made sure there was lots of music and theater in my life, too. i want my kids to have that exposure, as well. we go to museums and concerts when we can, play "mommy music" (classical and ragtime) as well as other stuff on the cd player, go to tanglewood once a year and listen to some seriously great classical music out on the lawn, and do other things when we can. i'm dying to take them to see stomp next time they're in my area.

Very. Art, music, appreciating the beauty in everything are all very important to our family. I'm a very artistically inclined person and my son has picked up on those traits from me. I look forward to nurturing those traits further in the future.

I agree with Parent. It holds more importance to me.
The kids do love museums and all that good stuff.. but they are just at the fast paced, short attention span ages.

Right now they are more important to me than to my children, but hopefully that will change as they get older. I'm waiting myself to be able to go to a place where they have ancient egyptian things on display!

I think it is more important to me then to the kids. I was bored by a lot of the arts as a kid but have learned an appreciation for some things as an adult. I try to expose them to as many different things as possible and hopefully they will find something that appeals to them.
