Why does the government need to do anything about it when, as the CEO of either EXXON or Shell or somesuch, testifying before a Senate committee or such, told the Senator THE way to stop gas prices or actually drop them. In his words, as close as I can remember them from yesterday, he said that the American citizen ought to do exactly what he has to do as the CEO of his major corporation: If you don't like the prices, QUIT BUYING SO MUCH of it!! He said he has to do that all the time in his corporate choices in operating his company, so, why shouldn't that same corporate savvy be used by the average American. In my words, why can't we see that we hold all the cards in the matter, or do we no longer have the ba**s to face reality and act on it rather than whining that the government ought to do something. WE can do something, just like we did in the early 1970's when the first oil crisis came around. Have we lost our backbone, our stamina, our character, to significantly drop the gas prices with buying options that go FAR beyond a "Don't buy gas on Wednesdays" type program, which is incredulously stupid! WE hold all the cards, and I hear more whining and denial of power by people than anything else. Sounds irresponsible has hell to me, so, in that case, more power to EXXON, BP, Shell, and anybody else who can take the spineless American auto purchaser / driver "to the cleaners". God Bless you.
