1. Money and gift prizes have really gotten bigger.
2. There was a large saturation of game shows through the 1980's. As our entertainment wants became more compartmented, the game shows have gone mostly away from the prime networks, and gathered in the USA on a handful of channels that still promote them.
3. I believe game shows have gotten tougher since the 1950's and 60's.

They have gotten more risque or cruder.
They hint at sexuality and inappropirte behavior.
I beleive they have gotten easier to answer are require less esoteric knowledege. Some deal mostly on chance. IE Family Feud VA Jeopardy.
To get audicneces they give away a lot more money.
