early theater has pretty much set the standard for entertainment all the way up to today- people like to be shocked, thrilled and scared, while knowing theyre in no danger so they can enjoy themselves. theater was one place where rules were openly broken in the very prim and proper 1900's- certain things were neevr discussed amongst the public, and in stage plays, they were thrown out there for the first time- this i think has influenced artists of all kinds to break outside the boundaries and question what society thinks is correct. i think that can go for all types of entertainment.
