how hard/important is temperature sensor on 06 chevy aveo?

06 chevy aveo owner ...engine light is on ...advance auto checked it and only thing that it found was temp. sensor. was told it HAD to go to dealership with he problem. is this true? would like to do hi myself ...is this hard to do?
 
There are 2 coolant temp sensors on that 1.6L engine. One for the guage and one for the computer. If it's the computer sensor that's bad it's very important to repair it as the computer uses info from that sensor to manage fuel control.
It's easy to replace. The computer sensor is on the backside of the engine (towards the firewall) screwed into the cylinder head.
