China has a lot of rolling country, so it's been united under one imperial system for thousands of years. Europe is much more rugged, which made it impossible to hold it together underone language and one emperor as early as China was. England is an island, so they had good naval technology. the Sahara does not have much water, so they never developed high concentrations of population. these are just some examples.
