I got a quote for my family and me for life insurance (20 years/400K each). I would like to negotiate a better rate with the broker (assuming same coverage).Can it be done, or are the rates fixed, is there room to negotiate. we did the blood work and were offered standard rates.

As with all insurance including this and auto, you can certainly shop around and get cheaper rates.
You should bear in mind though that cheaper is not always better. Experience over the years has taught me that the more expensive insurance companies pay out right away if there is a claim and sort out the mess later in the courts etc whereas some of the cheaper ones drag their feet for months and years stalling and waiting for legalities to be resolved be giving out a dime. You get what you pay for as the old motto goes.
