ok so i came on the other day and asked about the possibility of me being able to get one of these things across the us. most people responded that it was very unlikely to make it without any work done on it at some point in the journey.

id probably buy a used one (about $2000-$2500). how far do you think i could ride it until it needed work? say i started in san francisco headed towards new york, what state or city could i probably get to without any problems? i would drive it at 65 the whole way so i wouldnt kill it any more than i needed to.

supposing it does need some work, would it be minor stuff like tires and oil? would it be something that a novice wouldnt be able to do with a basic toolkit?

thanks, i realize that was alot of questions.

Stay on the back roads and you will be able to get to New York no problem. The only think you would need to get is a lot of hemroid creme. That is about a 3k mile trip. You shouldn't have to get new tires or oil between 3k miles. That little engine can take a lot of abuse. Highways might give it some trouble (it is low on power). That little seat isn't made for long trips, though.
