I am thinking of getting a brand new or pre owned 2008-2009 Honda CBR600RR, it has all the best features and its small, maneuverable, reliable, it is rated number 1 in 600cc class bike to have. ANyways theres only one major downside; I heard the maintenance on one thse machine could be quite expensive, and hard? Since its a race replica its built to tight tolerances and I heard to change the oil and oil filter you gotta take the whole engine out and to take most of the fairings off. Now how much would it cost to own one of these awesome machines and how reliable are they? I would greatly appreciate your honest answer, so to all you owners of the honda 600rr out there please tell me what I am getting myself in to? Thank you.

I personally have never worked on a 600 RR but seriously doubt any Honda is that poorly engineered to require pulling the engine to change the oil. Now on most sport bikes you have to remove the lower fairing to get to the oil filter and drain bolt. Pretty standard.

In order to adjust the valves you are gonna have to take the top fairing off and the valve cover as well as possible the lower fairing -in order to get to the timing marks on the rotor.

Hondas are very reliable and build world class engines. the biggest issue with Hondas has always been their weak charging systems. It is sort of Honda's acheles heel so to speak. Reg/rectifiers in hondas start dropping out around 25000 miles, Stator assemblies around 50,000 miles. But the aftermarket units are so much better built so when the stock drops dead replace it with a cost effective aftermarket unit and never worry again.
