How early can a 2006 car have been manufactured?

I am looking at used cars (Ford focus) at a dealer. The dealer claims that a car is 2006 model. But according to carfax, it was manufactured in Jan 2005 and first purchased at Aug.2005.

So I'm wondering if the dealer is trying to rip me off or is it possible for a 2006 model car to be produced early and it took it a while to be sold. (Someone told me that's possible but I wanted to double check) Thanks.
 
Practically all cars are manufacturered a year prior to and continued until late next year.

Why do you think you already see 2010 cars?

A MY2010 is manufacturered in 2009 to 2010. MY2007 was manufacturered starting in 2006 & ending late 2007. Etc.

MY = Model Year. They call it (MY2010, MY2009) because they weren't actually manufacturered that same year.
