How does wearing an Islamic viel ( hijab) preserve your dignity ?

I am interested with the knowledge behind just simply wearing the veil
and i would like to know about what advantages there are in wearing it and how it preserves your dignity , how helpful can it be unlike females who don't regularly wear it
