How does this sound for my book?

I'm in high school and I'm currently trying to write my own novel.

My main character is 16 years old. In the story, he forms a sort relationship with a young girl, about 7 years old. The story focuses on the two of them as they struggle to survive together in a harsh and deadly environment.

The protagonist of my story is a loner. Very bitter and doesn't really trust anyone... He's a juvenile delinquent, seems to hate the world, etc.)

He sees purity in the young girl and he cares for her more than anyone (or anything else) in the world. He does everything he possibly can to protect and defend her.

He deeply cares about her, so much to the point where he's almost completely obsessed with her. She is everything to him, his only reason for living (according to his logic...)

While they are both non-blood related, the love they're supposed to share is supposed to be sort of like a sibling relationship: He's the big brother and she's the little sister.

There's not supposed to be anything really sexual between the two of them, but there are some ideas that I had that are probably going to be controversial in my story... Please tell me what you think of them and if it would be best not to include such things...

1.) The main character, while a young man, isn't exactly supposed to be very 'well in the head'... He suffers from survivors guilt, phobia, depression... His minds supposed to be slightly twisted and warped (Not that he's a homicidal maniac...) so he actually believes himself to be in love with the young girl character...
2.) I had ideas for him and the girl to at some point in the story sleep in the same bed together... But nothing sexual is supposed to happen
