My God, you think because we are the world's most elite military, we NEVER make mistakes. Look, bud, let me tell you a secret. When you are overseas, in a country who has no standing military to fight but a bunch of ragtag hajis who wear the same clothes as everyone else, you have to consider everyone a suspect. I was in Iraq in 05-06, when Zarqawi and Al-Sadr were telling everyone to kill as many Americans as you can. I was a HET driver, which are slow moving vehicles (top speed 45 mph) that haul tanks around the country so I was an easy target. We saw Iraqis from age 8 to 80 shoot at us, throw rocks, block our route with cars and set up IEDs right below our noses. I did some bad stuff over there, I asked for forgiveness from God, and as far as I know, I have been forgiven. We just follow orders and the rules of engagement. We do not do anything that our commanders tell us not to do. At least, that's how it is supposed to be. But the situation over there was so f---ed up we had to make hard decisions a few times. I'd rather come home in a first class seat than in cargo, if you catch my drift.
The article (I did read it) says the victim's father accuses international forces of doing this horrible thing, since we are the "only" ones who use white phosphorus. Taliban uses them too. In fact, they steal our bombs. And another thing to think about is that perhaps the family is partially responsible; it is no secret that dirt poor families who have sick children seek class-A medical treatment from American medics. My thing is is that we don't know what happened because of what is called "the fog of war".
But the great thing about our military is that even if you are an enemy and I wounded you in combat, I have specific orders to administer first aid and MEDEVAC you to the closest medical facility if needed. So be thankful that we do that. There aren't many militaries in the world who are that nice to the enemy. Heck, when we found Saddam in the hole in 2003, we could have easily took him out or punched his lights out, but we delivered him, harmfree, to the Iraqi people.
