T Technobuff New member Dec 6, 2009 #2 Measurement of statistical temperatures are done in the shade, in an open area, in a specifically sized and ventilated enclosure at a set height above ground and over grass. If you put a thermometer direct in sun, it will read too high. 4 fits best.
