How Does The Reverse Work On A 1994 Kawasaki Mojave 250?

The reverse nob on my mojave is disabled so i can go all the way down to reverse with out turing the nob and i would like to fix it but i don't know how
 
The reverse cable pulls a lever, on the left side of the engine near the shift lever.
 
you should have the repair manuel if not then u will need to strip youre front end and reset it
