how does the honda civic ex 1.8l feel?

I drive and love the hp and feel of the o2, z 24 cavalier but she getting old and I plan on put her aside and fix her up (paint and bodywork) for my son for when he is old enough to drive it. question is how does a 08 honda civic compare to the feel of the old 2.4 the z-24 has, I want that. don't need to down shift on the highway to go up hills or to pass a car or lose power when the ac is on I don't care for all the toys and junk inside the cab(mp3 player, keyless entry, navagation just more crap to brake) . Is Honda all hipped up to be let me know before i believe all what I read on Car and Drive magazines and here on Answers and waste my time and test drive one.. I live two hr from the nearest honda dealer that why I ask..
 
1.8L I4, 16 valves, 140 hp @ 6300 rpm should have as much spunk as the z-24.i like how you talk and im the same way(no extra crap in a car)
