Culture then and now: Culture is according to time and area. There is no such thing as an international culture. If you mean the culture in time of Jews or the New Testament, that area has changed very little. The Islamic culture of debasing women and abuse to everyone not of their faith has continued for multitudes of centuries.

I totally agree with this author. I am a Christian that believes the Bible is the true Word of God and that it means what it says.

This is from my Bible program, Pradis. from the NIV Study Bible.

20:12 Honor. (1) Prize highly (see Pr 4:8), (2) care for (see Ps 91:15), (3) show respect for (see Lev 19:3; 20:9), and (4) obey (see Dt 21:18–21; cf. Eph 6:1). so that you may live long. “The first commandment with a promise” (Eph 6:2). See also note on Dt 6:2. Honoring those in authority is essential for social stability.

Honoring your parents?

I am still working on a study and I want as much input as possible about Exodus 20:12. part of what I wanted to accomplish was having a variety of opinions with no particular person or group in mind.

I realize that some of you don't believe in the Bible or God for that matter but maybe you will still raised with this Biblical principle and use it just not by label.

Please state your personal opinion on how honoring your parents has changed from Biblical times to present. If you are not familiar with Biblical times or want to use or word it differently that's fine too just go back as far into history as you want and compare to present.

thanks so much!
