How does the Automotive Degree work in Pima Community College?

Can someone explain the process that goes on when you try to get a degree as an automotive mechanic in pima. Ok so i know that you have to take like 6 to 8 auto classes to get a certificate but what is that for? And after that certificate you take like 8 to 10 more auto classes plus math and sciencee and writing etc. Someone please help
