the focus, like most front wheel drive cars, is relatively good in the snow since the engine weight is directly over the drive wheels. with a good set of blizzack snow tires on the front it should serve you well.
the one thing that would be tough is when the snow is deep and the roads aren't plowed. when it's like that you need ground clearance and you really won't find that with any cars!
you could consider an all wheel drive car...but it doesn't solve the ground clearance problem and cost considerably more than a normal 2 wheel drive car.
also, just a suggestion, before you buy new compare used.
the new car dealers ARE offering some nice prices to clear out inventory...but if you can buy the same thing with 20k miles on it you might find you can save alot!
