Socialism starts from the promise of free goods and services . If they promise naive people free education , health care , monthly food and cash payments , they vote the left wing extremists in power .
Many people have been brainwashed to the point that they believe It starts due to problems of capitalism .
They get angry when others get rich and the continue to stay in the middle/lower class.
They believe capitalism is a predatory system. No economic system is perfect, but capitalism is by far the best .
In many ways, socialism and Fascism can go hand in hand when left wing idealists over-extend their authority when they are suppressing and controlling the people and businesses.
Almost every dictator is a socialist at the moment . Castro and Hugo Chavez , are the two most popular left wing leaders . If Obama didn't have to answer to the constitution we would be in the same boat as Venezuela or Grenada with their Peoples Revolutionary Army .

It starts when Obama becomes president of a country apparently.
It typically starts due to the massive ill-effects of Capitalism.
Where the greedy continue to get rich and the middle/lower class continue to get nothing.
Pure Capitalism is a predatory system. No economic system is perfect, and this is one of Capitalisms dangers.

When Hitler came into power, he promised to restore HOPE AND CHANGE. He promised to undo the Versailes Treaty. He promised the poor, confused, distraught people of Germany restoration of hope. He blamed the Jews for inflicting tragedy to Germany. He told people what they needed to hear and the people felt what he was saying was true, like he really was going to get them out of this depression.
Among many many other things, Hitler was legally elected by the German people in a legitimate election on January 30th, 1933. The Nazi Party (nationalist socialist) won 43% of the vote, largest of any of the parties in the election. The German people had lost faith in the other parties of the politican center because Germany was suffering hardships during the 1920s and were hit even harder in 1929 by the Great Depression. They lost faith in the democratic process and wanted firm leadership. They even knew full well that the Nazis wanted to establish a dictatorship but did not care, the other parties had no answers. Then Hitler gained the support of the German Nationalist Party, which had won 15% of the vote and was ble to form a coalition government.
During the roaring twenties Germans ignored this vicious little man with his program of hatred. But when the Great Depression ruined their lives, they voted for him in increasing numbers. Needing support and thinking he could control Hitler, President Hindenberg made the mistake in January 1933 of giving Hitler the post of Chancellor. Once Hitler came into power and his coallition of Stormtroopers supported him as he supported them, he was able to kill many innocent people and scared many people with horrid images. No one dared to dissent from the government for fear of being shot. (Did you know there is still billions of dollars that Obama has ready to FUND his Civilian Army? He said in an interview that he wants to build a Civilian Army as powerful or more powerful than the United States Army...Hmmm. And just who is the enemy?).
Hitler was able to brain wash most of the German people, or scare the others into worshiping him. He used posters, radio, newspapers, and leaflets to spew out his propaganda. His speeches were strong and effective, he was a great Community Organizer, the nazis were organized. That means they thought everything through. What to normal people like me and you think through? Evil genius is always thinking ahead and thinking of ways to control the masses.

It generally starts slowly and then BOOM! it's there and some people didn't even realize it was coming. Look at Stalin and Hitler. That's what they did.

It can happen both ways...Most likely depending on the type of government and the way the country's economy works. The population also must favor it to an extent. The more in-favor, the longer it will take---> (At least in theory). In Norway, it happened over a period of time as it gradually swooped in....70% of Norway's population mass was in favor of socialism.
Now the only way socialism works for them is on behalf of the United States capitalist economy. If we go towards socialism, Norway and all those other socialist country's can kiss the way that works for them good-bye... Our nation is upholding their way of life.
....How it will happen in the U.S., will most likely be overnight. It won't literally be overnight, but the effects of the BOOM will be felt long before the BOOM is felt.
...Kind of like when you see an explosion... You see the light, but you can feel it a few seconds later. That's probably what it will be like...

If Capitalism originated from greed, socialism, certainly originates from envy. Strong leaders can incite the population to envy. The more people who can be made to envy the rich, the faster socialism will grow.
Socialism grows slowly when people figure out how to loot the labor and capital of their fellow man. Socialism has been growing in the United states since the Constitution was written.
Socialism is parasitic in nature. Taking money from the rich, does not hurt the rich. Taxation forces the rich to cut back. Employees work harder for less. Customers pay more for less. The whole economy slows. Government is then forced to spend more to undo the damages caused by taxation in the first place. Then Government needs to raise taxes to pay for the spending it had to do because it raised taxes.
The two "isms" come from opposite ends of the morality spectrum. Capitalism seeks to deliver the best goods, to the most people, at the least cost. Socialism seeks to steal the most goods and give them to people and doesn't care about the cost.
Both are corrupted when government becomes too large and intrusive.
Capitalism is the force of economic prosperity. It is a win/win situation.
Example: When I buy a loaf of bead, I value the bread more than the money it takes to buy it. The grocer values the money more than the loaf of bread. We both win. If the Government makes rules which forbid competition or makes the grocer pass extra costs to me. It's not capitalism any more. The liberals call it capitalism though. All liberal thought, values, policies and beliefs are rooted in this kind of lie and changed definitions of words.
