yes it does in a lot of ways. making cigarettes requires energy. And think of all the cigarette butts that need to be picked up - they are not biodegradable. consider the packaging. cigarette smokers use resources from the health care system, which also affects the environment. it creates litter, many forest fires are caused by a cigarette butt, forests are cut down to grow tobacco cigarettes require a huge amount of paper etc.
