I'm doing a speech on overfishing and i have to state how overfishing would effect the people in my class and what we can do to stop overfishing? How would overfishing affect the people in my class that live in Minnesota? Also what can we do to stop it?

Over fishing will eventually deplete (do away with) any fish species.Once a species is gone it is gone. Natural predators will have to rely on other food sources for their survival. The cost of food products that contain fish will go up in price. Over fishing any fish population will affect the ecosystem of any body of water and not in a good way.
In 2004, the US Commission on Ocean Policy reported that "25% to 30% of the world's major fish stocks are over exploited and that US fisheries are experiencing similar difficulties. Of the nation's 267 major fish stocks ... roughly 20% are either already over fished, experiencing overfishing, or approaching an over fished condition." Limits on commercial fishing need to be set for the health of the oceans.

In 2005, a study by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations found that global stocks of most fish are stretched to their limits. Nearly a quarter of commercial species have already been over-exploited, with a total 70% of species now being fished close to, at, or beyond their capacity.

The state has limits on catches already which protect numbers. You buy a license to fish which gives the state money to regular and stock. Most species have specific seasons in which they can be caught. I think your teacher is a nut job asking dumb questions.
