How does Google Voice work with Verizon?

Google Voice sounds like it's going to be pretty neat. Does anyone know how it's going to work with Verizon? Do I have to change my number if I want to use it?

Google voice is not available for Verizon Wireless customers at this time...

Have you heard of it being released to Verizon customers somewhere?

sounds like he was asking about how it going to be / not how is it. I took the question to be as in when it is available for vzw customers how will it work. maby someone has heard how it will work with vzw service.

I think I figured it out...

You would simply add your Verizon cell phone number to Google Voice, and your cell phone would ring if someone called your google voice number. I'm not quite sure how it would notify your cell phone that you have a new voice mail though. I don't imagine it would be the same as getting a voice mail through Verizon.

i have google voice. got in back when google first bought grand central
i picked a local area code number, and was all hyped about it ...
and it kinda died, it still worked but little or no support for it , only forums and groups
so i really didnt use it much
it had VVM but since i was on dumb phone, it was not fully usable, i had to get on pc to play my voice mail

as for now it seems to be much improved, though some feature still not active on dare. though the auto transcribe is pretty damn cool. someone leaves a voice mail and i have transcript sent via txt message, the @ 80% accuracy makes it very entertaining also.
in my tests i received the transcript with in a min of hanging up.
i'm getting an omnia this week , i'll let you know how it works
