How does boot camp work on macs?

I want to install boot camp on my mac but I am not quite sure how it works. Can all of the windows software run on my mac if I have boot camp (e.g games, Microsoft office etc.)? Also what would I need to install it?
 
bootcamp was made by apple for macs. So ofcourse it will work on a mac.

Anyway your answer is yes, BUT as of right now boot camp can not install 64-bit OS of windows, only 32-bit.

The only other software you need is a windows operating system cd sold at a local or online retailer.
