It doesn't. Happy families and stable homes benefit everyone.
Religious zealots cry about it because they ignorantly think that somehow the act of someone else being married makes them less married, or their relationship less sacred. They also falsely claim that laws allowing civil changes to marriage laws hurt their religious freedoms. They fail to see the difference between a church sanctifying a marriage and a state granting equal rights.
