Help-I am not a history buff and can't help my daughter with this.
The ? is - How does a book about Pearl Harbor demonstrate the time period or culture we are about to study? They will be studying ancient and modern times and the medieval world- HELP!!!

Your question needs to be made clearer. I'll answer what I think you're asking. The underlying theme that will most-likely be shown to your daughter, is cultural bias in writing history. The Japanese will be demonized for their attack, w/o the US being shown as having contributed to the escalation @all. A prime responsibility of educators, is to make students aware of the need for skepticism in anything they read. The most fair-minded, well-intentioned authors still have biases. As you well know, many authors are not so well-intentioned. Your daughter will almost definitely be taught this basic principle @her age. Icing on the cake will be the culture clash which occurred between Japan & America @the time.
