How does a 999R compare to a 1098 or 1098S?

I friend of mine was a 999R owner and before he got his 1098R he took my base model out for a spin and said it was faster, not a stupid amount faster, but notably faster. He did say the the riding position of the 999R was much better.

Why not ask the pro's? Doug Polen is a Ducati'holic. I think he puts this very nicely. What I got out of the article...

If you can ride like Bayliss, the 1098 should be faster (around a track...I think its obvious the 1098 has more power and is faster in a straight line). If you ride like most people, the 999 seems to play better.

Just a crazy thought here. Seems like most of these comments are based on speed and agility which are great points. How do you intend to ride the bike? Is it going to be a track bike or an every day/ weekend street ride? So some input on normal riding conditions are most likely what you need.
