The five as with every dollar denomiation shows that were a civilization because we aren't using the barter system.
It shows us as a civ because there you can longer walk into a bank and give them a five and get five bux worth of gold which about 100 years ago you were able to do
It shows us as a civ b/c it shows the "full faith and credit" of the federal bank system.
