How do you write poetry?

I always get random urges to write a poem. I love to write fiction. But sometimes I get those weird days where I have inspiration to write a poem. And I know what I want it to be about. But I can never figure out how to actually write it out!! How the heck do you write a simple poem? One that doesn't have to rhyme.
