How do you wire a car audio capacitor then charge it?

I bought a capacitor for my car. I have looked at diagrams and forums but nothing is helping. I hook everything up and then i have no power to my amp. The capacitor starts reading numbers but amp still not working. Anyone help? Maybe a step by step guide to doing all this. Thanks
