How do you use Photon Arts with your weapon on Phantasy Star Portable 1 for PSP?

How do you use Photon Arts with your weapon on Phantasy Star Portable 1 for PSP?

I just purchased the game and you start out with a large Sword in your inventory that says "Photon Art Tornado Break" pp cost 14

I tried holding it down like on the Phantasy Star Zero for the DS but no luck
