How do you treat fin rot in tropical fish?

I have 2 large silver dollars and have had them since they were the size of a ten pence, they grew to large for my old tank so i bought a larger tank and they have been fine in there ever since, lately i have been noticing a slight discoloration on the fin and it slightly fraying and being eaten away ! What do i do ?
 
use melafix and clean out your tank.
just a 25-30% water change is fine.

to prevent it.
keep stress low.
stress reduces the immune systems chance to fight off bad bacteria.
do regular water changes.
feed them nutritional food.
 
clean the tank really well. There is an antibiotic drops that you can get at your pet store, ask them, they know which is best. or read the labels carefully. Keep the tank clean and continue with the drops.
