In America, our military and our firemen are our only nobility, some doctors and many nurses, fathers and some non baby killing mothers do come close. But our sailors, soldiers, airmen, firemen and Marines are undoubtedly our American nobility.

I see nobility as the act of going against your own best interest.
Eklektikos has given a good answer I feel. Servicemen, Cops, Firemen, parents in general, all fit that definition quite well.
But then again, what about teachers? They have to deal with your fat, undisciplined, unruly brats, every day. Kids who are sucked into the culture of "it's cool to be ignorant and walk around with my pants down." I mean, what of that teacher who got her nose broken by a fifth grader last week? She can take her teaching degree into the private sector, and make three times the money. Surely there is some nobility to be found in teaching.

its the same with right and wrong, i think right and wrong a a concept on different opinions on different levels, if you are brought up in an environment of stealing then yes stealing is right for you, but for us we think its wrong, wright and wrong are just words that help us create laws and guide lines, a noble act for me would be sacrifice to save a bunch of people were as someone who has a different concept of right and wrong would state a noble act as stealing something very valuable or killing a president, in the end its all opinions on different levels
We can call a person Noble ( not the medieval nobles) when he is full of honesty,( it should be well known) gentle in behavior, full of ethics & etiquette . That person can be called noble. Money or richness should not be counted in it.

According to me many people now do may environmental work for the protection of wild life , conservation etc. , they are also do very noble act.
In medieval period rich people were considered as noble or together nobility .But with educated mind , & scientific temper , rationalism in our head ,we are not ready to accept such thing any more .Yet if we see too much rich people ( with out knowing their character) we look at them in awe , we make mistake by thinking them as nobility.
