Be prepared to defend your position, and also think about your benefits in this situation.

When you approach your mother, do so when she is in a good mood. Warm her up before you drop the bomb on her so she is not so devastated....after all, she has already expressed her disapproval. You need to really think about how much your Mother means to you and consider all that she has sacrificed and done for you.

Now, make a list of the goodness that your incarcerated friend has brought to your life.

Just bc someone is in jail does not mean they are a bad person, we all make mistakes. Unless your friend is a murderer or a pedophile, a rapist, a con artist-he is probably an alright guy who is repaying his debt to society.

Really though, what good does it do YOU to have a friendship with your friend in jail? Remember that you are judged by the company you keep and depending on what career field you currently or aspire to work in, you could damage your credibility.

Your Mom cares for you and has years of life experience. Do listen to her advice and take it into consideration. You deserve to have good friends who enhance the quality of your life and who make you happy. Mom is just looking out for your best interest bc she loves you more than anyone-except maybe your father.

in jail and she doesnt like him? well when my older brother went to jail he became associates with this young man and we have been talking and communicating but my mother doesn't really approve of it but i talk to him anyway because i say everybody deserves to have a friend. now we arent in a relationship or anything but she believes that we are and i dont want to keep hiding this from her

You sleep with dogs, you wake up with fleas" Now, if you never heard this phrase before let me just make sure you are clear here. ......I didn't say YOU sleep with him..it means ..who you hang around or associate with is important. Yep, everyone needs a second chance. Let his family work on that one. You should not be talking to, hanging around, thinking about anyone that had to go to jail, no way, no how!!!

Just tell her straight out that you've got a friend who's in jail for gang-related crimes of violence and he says that if she stops you being his friend he will get some of his homies to fcuk her up so bad she's gonna need a machine to breathe with.

That should do it.
