I always wanted to take some good photos at night using my dslr I see many photos online like of the city line from a distance but when i try to take photos at night they come out dark and lots of noise and blury.

Try experimenting with different shutter speeds, but make sure your camera is steady as possible and if possible put it on a tripod. To avoid noise you will want to lower the ISO speed (cameras sensitivity to light) and to compensate you may need to have a slower shutter speed or wider aperture. Aperture is the size of the hole in the lens that lets in light. However what may confuse you is that the lower the number (eg. F/2.8) will be a larger hole and therefore let in more light as opposed to a smaller hole with a larger number (eg. F/8.0)
