How do you start a modern Harley-Davidson Softail?

OK, I know this makes me a noob, but what is the starting procedure for a new HD? It occurs to me that I've never seen a key-slot on a Softail, just the toggle switch on the console. Where does the key go? Also, what are the settings on the fuel petcock?

In reply, my question is, why would a noobie be riding or even wanting a huge, heavy bike like a softail? I'm not anti-Harley, but there are many, many better bikes to be learning on.

i think i can help a little.. the key goes on the left side of the bike near the motor.
