How do you remove the drive axles from a 93 mazda so trans axle can be removed?

The manual says it can be disconnected from the trans axle without needing to remove it from the hub, but we don't see how. As well we tried to remove the axle nut, but even with a lot of force we have no luck, any suggestions? thanks
 
If you're talking about seperating the driveshafts from the transmission on a front wheel drive vehicle, it's usually done by disconnecting the front uprights from the bottom arms, which should give enough play for the driveshafts to just pull out of the gearbox.
