How do you remove iTunes as the default media player?

When I want to listen to an audio file online, the file automatically downloads to my iTunes library. I only want to listen to the files online; I don't want them as mp3s on my iPod. How do I correct this problem?

in the preferences section under the main menu bar you can change it.
