how do you read ovulation tests properly?

When the test shows 1 line only, is this the same as if it shows 2 lines but one is fainter??
I did a test yesterday and it showed one line faint and one dark, i did it today and it only showed the dark test line. does this mean i missed my ovulation?
 
I use the two line ovulation tests also. They can be frustrating to read at times. There should always be one dark line. This is the control line. If you don't have it, then the test is faulty. The second test line can be one of three things: not there (no Lutienizing Hormone detected), faint as in lighter than the control line (a little LH detected but not enough to cause the egg to release), or as dark/darker than the control line (your LH has surged and is high enough to get your ovary to release the egg). After you get your LH surge, you should release an egg in 12-36 hours.

Also, I made the mistake of testing at the wrong time of day. I didn't read the instructions the first month & was using FMU. You release LH during the day, so it's best to test between 10 am & 8 pm. Before you test try to limit your fluid intake & try not to pee for about 4 hours. This will help concentrate your pee and you'll get a more accurate test result. Remember too that our bodies produce small amounts of LH throughout the month. The tests are designed to only read positive when you have a certain higher level of LH in your system.
