How do you put ringtones on a micro sd card? (samsung exclaim)?

like i know how to put music on my micro sd card. but when i put the ringtones on the micro sd card it doesnt do anything. it just plays it like regular music, i cant use it as a ringtone. is there something else that i should be doing? or what?
*feels like a retard* lmao
