how do you pull the speeometer cable out from behind the dash on a toyota

crown 1982 model? im trying to put my dash meter gauge back in but cannot because once i have connected the 2 electric wires it is hard to aim at the speedometer connection. Wht i need is to pull the cable out then place the meter gauge back in. So how do i pull the cable forward for easyer connection
