How Do You Protect Yourself When Sending Back a Problem Phone

Erica,
T-Mobile's insurance policy does cover liquid damage. The problem that comes in is that when you do a warranty exchange through t-mobile, the insurance company is not involved. If you are worried that there might be a charge, there is the option to do the warranty exchange through the Insurance carrier directly. If the insurance company finds that it is a warranty problem, (as was explained to us) you will not be charged a deductible (or it will be refunded if already paid). If they determine that it was a non-warranty situation then you will be hit for the insurance deductible and it will count towards your 2 exchanges in 12 month period. Now the fact that you got charged only $100 is not bad since the deductible is actually $110 on a BB device through T-Mobile's contract with Asurion.

When I had to exchange my 8700g for the white-screen-of-death, they asked me during my customer service call if the phone was exposed to water and what color the sticker was. I told them it had never been exposed to water and the sticker was pink ever since I got the phone. They said that indicated water damage, but they would actually have someone take it apart and check for other signs. But if they found water damage, I would be charged the hundred bucks. Well, I was never charged and interestingly enough, the replacement phone had a pink sticker when I got it. Go figure.

I am aware of the fact that they don't cover liquid damage. I did MANY warranty exchanges before that happened. I have exchanged 1 7730, 2 out of 3 7100t's, 2 7105t's, 1 previous Pearl, and 2 SideKick 2's. The ONLY phone they charged me $100 for the damage was the first 7105t.
